This Technical Specification was prepared by the Technical Committee CENELEC TC 37A, Low voltage surge protective devices. The text of the draft was submitted to the formal vote and was approved by CENELEC as CLC/TS 50539-12 on 2009-10-30.
This Technical Specification describes the principles for selection, location, coordination and operation of SPDs to be connected to PV installations. The d.c. side is rated up to 1500 V d.c. and the a.c. side, if any, is rated up to 1000 V rms 50 Hz.
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has released IEC 60364-7-712:2017 for “Low voltage electrical installations – Part 7-712: Requirements for special installations or locations – Solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply systems”.
The newly issued UL 1449 Standard for Surge Protective Devices for safety and is the preferred standard for all AC surge protection devices (SPDs).Requirements that cover surge protective devices (SPDs) designed for the repeated limiting of transient voltage surges as specified in the standard on 50 or 60 Hz power circuits not exceeding 1000 V.
